Philipp’s first experience in the world of cosmetics came when he was a 14-year old student in Hamburg, spending his summer vacation at the Albrecht & Dill warehouse instead of at the beach with his friends. There, he assembled packages for the luxury brand Chanel, which was then distributed exclusively through the hanseatic business center in Germany. In the warehouses of the Osdorf neighborhood of Hamburg, Philipp learned the business of beauty from scratch, and developed a fine sense of perfumes and cosmetics, building the foundation of his career.

In 2001, after completing his dual studies, Philipp joined Albrecht & Dill as sales manager for Erno Laszlo and Annick Goutal — then the only two brands in the portfolio. During his career in the field and over the course of numerous trips abroad, Philipp witnessed the rise and fall of many brands, but again and again, he also discovered valuable beauty products with high potential, which he brought into the German market and which now make up a crucial part of the company’s portfolio. In 2003, Philipp purchased shares of the company, and became owner and Managing Director of Albrecht & Dill Cosmetics GmbH. Since January 2014, he has been the sole owner and Managing Director of the Hamburg company.

Nadine discovered her passion for perfume and cosmetics at the age of 13. Together with her mother she browses through perfumeries for hours, always looking for something new. During high school she gained experience through temporary jobs at Douglas perfumeries. After graduating from high school she started her apprenticeship as an industrial management assistant.

In February 2004 Nadine started working at Albrecht & Dill Cosmetics. She had been working for several departments before she became responsible for two important pillars of the Hamburg based trading house. As Purchasing and Logistics Director and fully authorised representative she overviews all the company’s processes.

The Cocoa Thing

The Cocoa Thing

The Albrecht & Dill Hanseatic trading company was founded in 1806 by Johann N. Albrecht, and over the course of the centuries, it helped determine the history of the city of Hamburg itself. The company got its present name after 1835, with the arrival of Theodor Dill, who has been known as the “stock savior” in the city of Hamburg since 1842. During the great fire of Hamburg, he and other hanseatic businessmen stayed in the newly built stock exchange building to protect the magnificent building from flames.

For its first 140 years as Albrecht & Dill, the company imported colonial goods of all kinds, partly with its own boats, from South America and Africa to Germany and other countries in Europe. After the Second World War, the company became increasingly specialized in the importation of raw cocoa and spices, and still remains a leader in this field all these years later.

It started with Chanel

In the 1950s, Albrecht & Dill reached a milestone in the German cosmetic industry with the import and distribution of luxury perfumes and cosmetic products. The company laid the foundations for Chanel perfume sales in Germany. Since the beginning of 1987, the American skincare brand Erno Laszlo New York joined the permanent range, as did French perfumes by Annick Goutal Paris since 1994. Since 2002, this range has expanded to include products from longstanding perfume brands like Floris London, Caron Paris, and Penhaligon´s London.

Since January 2003, cosmetics and perfumes have been distributed under the name Albrecht & Dill Cosmetics GmbH. This individualized and passionate approach to nice products is what made the company successful. This also allows the product range to be expanded quickly. In 2004, the distributor of the Ingrid Millet Paris product line was welcomed into the brand portfolio. That same year, it was further expanded with the addition of products from the venerable French company Lalique Parfums Paris. Throughout the years and the company’s growing success, brands like Cartier, Maison Francis Kurkdjian, Ren, The Different Company, and Marvis, followed.

Sahlings right nose

Albrecht & Dill Cosmetics luxury brand portfolio is now mainly distributed through select perfumery retail sectors. This allows a high-quality, faithful, and exclusive presentation of the brands. Since September 2006, the Haute Perfumery and Beauty range has also been offered at SAHLING stores. Today, there are four stand-alone stores in central Hamburg. Their trademark, the sales counter styled like an apothecary’s, mirrors Albrecht & Dill’s own tradition-rich history, and gives the shops an unusual and intimate flair. Customers from outside the hanseatic city can visit counters in 20 leading department stores throughout Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and appreciate niche products. At the Ludwig Beck and Oberpollinger stores in Munich, KaDeWe and the Galeries Lafayettes in Berlin, as well the Swiss luxury houses Jelmoli and Globus in Zurich, each visitor is sure to find their very own scent.

Lifestyle, Stars & Fashion

Since 2009, Albrecht & Dill Cosmetics has stood for more than just niche markets. After taking over the European-wide distribution of Ed Hardy Fragrances, Philipp Sahling opened a new chapter in the company's history. The company soon conquered the lifestyle and fashion markets with newly acquired beauty products by True Religion and Superdry. In 2011, the Rihanna collection also joined Albrecht & Dill Cosmetics. Soon, the company’s celebrity scent portfolio was expanded thanks to Katy Perry and Jay Z. Beyond perfumes, the Hollywood brand Glamglow has also been a lasting part of the beauty product range since 2012.
